Lauren Elliott is the USA Today bestselling author of the Bookstore Mystery Series. After a career working with rare books at the Boston Public Library, Addie Greyborne is back in her seaside New England hometown—where unfortunately, murder is not so rare . . .

Gossip columnists love a bold-faced name—but “Miss Newsy” at Greyborne Harbor’s local paper seems to specialize in bald-faced lies. She’s pointed a finger of suspicion at Addie after librarian June Winslow never makes it home from a book club meeting. And when June’s found at the bottom of a steep flight of stairs, Addie’s not only dealing with a busybody, but a dead body.

It’s a good thing the guy she’s dating is the police chief. But both the case and her love life get more complicated when a lanky blonde reporter from Los Angeles shows up. She’s trying her hardest to drive a wedge between the couple . . . as if Addie doesn’t have enough problems dealing with angry townspeople. Despite all the rumors, Addie doesn’t know a thing about the murder—but she plans to find out. And the key may lie in a book about pirate legends that June published. Now she just has to hunt down the clues before she becomes a buried treasure herself . . .

Page Turning Cozy Mystery I’m happy to say that I loved this even more than the first one. Returning to Greyborne Harbor and diving back into Addie’s life was great. This was a page turner for sure. I enjoyed meeting a handful of new Greyborne residents including Gloria and her dog Pippi and Simon and his beautiful blue eyes. I didn’t enjoy meeting Lacey, a blast from Marc and Serena’s past and my new least favorite person. When the town librarian dies under suspicious circumstances, and the new gossip columnist starts spreading rumors that Addie might somehow be involved, she finds herself at the center of another mystery. When she’s asked to chair the book club that June, the late librarian, was a part of, she finds out she has a family connection to her. While writing her book on the pirate history of Greyborne Harbor, June used Addie’s aunt’s extensive collection of rare and vintage books as research material.Expectedly, Addie’s “theories” about June’s death cause tension between her and Marc when she starts getting to close to his investigation. Another thing causing tension between them, and between her and Serena, is Lacey Davenport. Lacey is, in addition to being my least favorite person, is Marc and Serena’s childhood friend and Marc’s former fiancée. The Davenport’s have been at war with the Greyborne’s since the town was founded a few hundred years ago, and Addie seems to think Lacey’s obvious hatred for her has a little bit to do with that, and a lotta bit to do with her relationship with Marc. This causes more friction between Addie and Marc and ends up putting a wedge in their romance and their friendship. With Marc (somewhat) out of the picture Addie starts spending more time with Simon, the new doctor in town. Simon weaseled his way into my heart with his sob story about how women only want him for his socioeconomic status and not for who he is. Addie may not have bought it, but I sure did. Their blossoming relationship makes for some really awkward encounters with Marc during the investigation, but at the end of the day they’re able to work together and not only solve June’s murder, but find out who has been writing all of the nasty things about Addie in the paper. So, what do I want to see next? Sorry Addie, but I’m over Marc and in love with Simon, so you better give him a real chance. I’m also eager to learn more about David’s father, who we meet at the end of the novel. He seems like a real jerk and I’m positive Addie isn’t going to put up with it. I’m also eager to see more “recon” from Serena and for Marc to finally get over himself and realize that Addie is a valuable resource when it comes to solving mysterious crimes.Lauren Elliott is a master at drawing you in and keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire time. She also writes great dialogue that makes you feel like you’re right there helping out with the investigation. I can’t wait to see what this great writer does next! This "Lacey" character will get under your skin! I really enjoyed this book, and could not put it down! After reading the preview chapter which goes into the garbage printed about Addie in a gossip column, I wasn't sure I would like it. But after reading the first book in this series, I found Ms..Elliot's writing ability excellent and ordered this second in the series, and I would highly recommend it..Good story, annoying character habits I liked the story line, the mystery and characters held my interest. What I don’t like is the constant winking at each other by pretty much all of the main characters. It was worse in the first book and, although not quite as bad as the first, a bit better in the second. I will read the third but if the winking, playfully slapping and grimacing continues in the third it will be the last.
