The husband and wife team Nancy and Randall Faber are internationally known as authors of the Piano Adventures teaching method and over two hundred publications for the piano. They recently founded the Faber Piano Institute in Ann Arbor, MI, where they live with their daughter Vivian. Nancy Faber, who was named "Distinguished Composer of the Year" by the Music Teachers National Association, enjoys a busy schedule of commissions for the concert stage in addition to her educational composing. Recent commissions include "The Snow Queen" for narrator and orchestra, "The Picture My Imagination Has Painted" for Flute Quartet and Piano, and "Trio for Flute, Saxophone and Piano". Her pieces have been heard on U.S. public radio and network television. She studied composition with Joan Tower, William Albright, and British composer Nicholas Maw; piano studies were at the Eastman School and Michigan State University. Randall Faber has toured Korea, Taiwan, Canada and the United Kingdom. He was master teacher for both the World Conference on Piano Pedagogy and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. He gave recitals in St. Louis, Ann Arbor, as Convention Artist for the North Dakota Music Teachers, and performed as Visiting Artist at the University of Michigan, University of Southern Mississippi, Saginaw State University, and numerous universities throughout South Korea. He was featured clinician for the Nebraska Music Teachers, the Florida Music Teachers and the Pennsylvania Music Teachers Convention, and recently presented his research at the 9th International Conference on Motivation in Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Faber holds three degrees from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. The Fabers advocate piano study not only for personal expression and performance success, but also as a vehicle for the student's creative and cognitive development. Their philosophy is reflected in their writing, their public appearances, and in their own tea

(Faber Piano Adventures ). The 2nd Edition Primer Lesson Book introduces the keyboard, note values, and the grand staff. Students play in C 5-finger scale patterns, develop recognition of steps and skips, and learn letter names independent of finger number. Musicianship is built through the use of dynamics and coloristic experimentation with the pedal. The book is organized into units which represent the major concepts and skills. As new units are introduced, earlier concepts and skills are constantly reviewed.

Always purchase for my beginner piano students! I LOVE the Piano Adventures series, especially for my beginner students. The focus is on note reading rather than traditional "5-finger position" learning, which makes for more confident music reading and a much smoother transition to more advanced pieces. The pieces are fun for the students to play, and the book progresses at a good pace so students don't feel "stuck" on a topic, nor overwhelmed with too much new information. By far my favorite series of method books.Love this series Love this series. However, ordering straight from the publisher is just as affordable and they also started doing "packages" with several books and bonus books and I really like that!Love this book for young beginning students! I have used this book with about seven of my students so far, and I LOVE IT! I use it in conjunction with the theory book (I do not use the technique and artistry book or the performance book but they are available) and I really like how the things they learn in the music is what they are also learning in their theory book. I try to reinforce even further during the lesson with a game, and they almost always remember what we've learned. The way they introduce a single note at a time is really great for young learners, and it gives them time to remember and digest that note before learning something new. My younger students a lot of times remember note names better than my older students! The other great thing about this book, though, is that while they learn and use finger numbers to find hand positions and occasionally guide them throughout the song, they really are reading by note name as well as steps and skips (2nd and 3rd intervals) rather than just reading finger numbers.I also love that this book teaches steps and skips and focuses on it just as much as note name. It gives my students two dynamics to learn a song by, and together they make a really strong playing student. This book starts by teaching finger numbers and pre-reading songs off the staff, and then slowly transitions to the staff one note at a time, so I have only used it with younger students (Kindergarten-3rd grade). But if you have an older student with a handicap or who prefers to learn more slowly, I would definitely recommend this book. My students come away with an in-depth knowledge of everything they have learned. I couldn't be happier with this book!
